A Darker Shade Of Magic - VE Schwab | Review

A Darker Shade Of Magic is the first book in a new fantasy series by VE Schwab. I had never read any of Schwab's other novels before picking this up but I have heard great things about her writing and she did not disappoint.
In this fantasy world there's 4 alternative London's and only two people can travel between the different London's , one of those 2 is our main character Kell.
Kell travels through the London's to send messages from one thrown to another and one day he accidentally brings a dangerous trinket from one London to another. This trinket should not be in the other London's but our second main character Lila Bard , a pickpocket in grey London , steals it off of him.
Kell must return the trinket to the correct London which , of course, will not be as easy as it sounds.

This book has a lot of point of views and was a little bit confusing for me at first but as soon as I got over the initial ‘what is going on?’ that one gets while reading a fantasy novel , I was interested in the characters and the world building , after all there is 4 worlds to build!

It was fast paced and I found the characters and the contrast between them really interesting and this is no happy , fluffy love story, a lot of likeable people die gruesome deaths and I found that quite refreshing as a lot of books , even fantasy are centered around romance from start to finish and although there is a foundation for romance in future books this first novel is action packed.

I would recommend this book to any fantasy lovers , it is the best book I’ve read this year and I cannot wait to continue the series!
I gave it 5/5 stars.
